Parish of St Anne
The Parish of St Anne with St Thomas and St Peter in the Soho section of London is part of the Diocese of London in the Church of England. The parish was founded in 1686 by Bishop Henry Compton and he dedicated it to Saint Anne because he had been tutor to Princess Anne before she became Queen. In 1699 a tuition-free parish school was founded for boys and in 1704 it started to admit girls. William Hazlitt was buried in the church yard in 1830.
