Parineeta (1914) is a story by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay set in Calcutta, India during the early part of the twentieth century. It is the story of a poor orphan girl, Lolita, who is sent to live with her uncle. She befriends and falls in love with the rich boy next door, Shekhar. An older wealthy man, Girish, also falls in love with Lolita. The central focus of the novel is the conflict which arises due to issues surrounding class. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
