Pan-Islamism
Pan-Islamism is the loose unification of all Islamic countries and peoples. It refers to the brotherhood of all Muslims, and the struggle against all powers that oppress Islam. The rise of Pan-Islamism can be found throughout the '50s, '60s and '70s of the 20th century, resulting in a political and economic crisis in Muslim countries. The start of this modern Islamism can be found at the "Muslim Brotherhood" in Egypt, which challenged the secular government in Egypt of the Wafd party and later Nasser's government. Pan-Islamists found followers mainly from low and middle-class civilians who were tired of corruption and economic distress under their government. Nearly all attempts of Pan-Islamism to take control of the government were doomed to failure. Only Iran has had a successful Islamic revolution. The new global Pan-Islamism such as Al-Qaeda can be seen as a different Pan-Islamism that does not try to revolt in the countries itself but look for a whole new global order.
