Film version
Paint Your Wagon was made into a big-budget movie in 1969, adapted by Paddy Chayefsky who provided a very different storyline: Julio is now Ben's partner in the gold claim and since they share everything 50-50 when Ben "claims" Elizabeth and she falls in love with Partner, they decided that if a Mormon man can have two wives a wife can have two husbands. Filmed in Oregon, the production starred Jean Seberg, Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood (all of whom did their own singing) with Joshua Logan directing.
