This education replaces grades such as "A" "B" "C", etc. Instead of grades the student is "levelled". From highschool, years eight to twelve, the student will receive levels 1 through to 8. A student cannot 'fail', he or she will just simply not achieve in the average level demonstated by the grade or year.

Many people are against OBE, suggesting that it doesn't let students excell because they are levelled. It is harder to mark outcomes and parents simply do not have anything to go by.
