Ottawa Gee Gees

The Ottawa Gee Gees are the athletic teams that represent the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario.

The team name comes from the original team colours, which were, and still are, the "Garnet and Grey", the GGs, or Gee Gees. A geegee is also the lead horse in a race.

The Gee Gees are most known in Canadian college athletics (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) for a perennially strong football team, winning the national championship, the Vanier Cup, in 1975 and 2000 and appearing in the championship game several other times. The football Gee Gees practice on campus but play their home games at Lansdowne Park's Frank Clair Stadium which they share with the CFL's Ottawa Renegades. The University of Ottawa's current head football coach is Denis Piche.
