Otakars

The Otakars were a dynasty ruling Styria from 1056 to 1192. The dynasty began with Ottokar I, who was Count of Steyr in the Traungau in what is today Upper Austria. Styria (German Steiermark) took its name of their original seat in Steyr. Originally, the territory, then subject to the Duchy of Carinthia was known as the Karantanian March. The reign of the Ottakars ended when the dynasty went extinct with the death of Ottokar IV, who agreed that his lands should pass to the Babenberg Duke of Austria, Leopold V, in the Georgenberg Pact of 1186.
