Order of Merit of the Police Forces


 

The Order of Merit of the Police Forces is an Order (decoration) of Canada, established in October 2000. It is awarded for conspicuous merit and exceptional service by members of the various police forces in Canada.

The Order has three classes: Companion (COM), Officer (OOM) and Member (MOM). The Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is ex officio the Principal Companion of the Order.

The badge of the Order is a black enamelled cross pattée, in gilt for Companions and Officers, in silver for Members. The central disc bears a maple leaf - red enamelled leaf on golden background for Companions, golden leaf on golden background for Officers, silver leaf on silver background for Members - surrounded by a red enamel ring bearing the words "Merit - Mérite - Canada", and topped by a crown. Companions wear the badge on a necklet; Officers and Members wear their badges, suspended by a gilt or silver bar decorated with a laurel motif, on a ribbon on the left chest.
