The open source vs. closed source (alternatively called proprietary development) debate is sometimes heated.

The debate over open source vs. closed source (or proprietary) is very much a religious war. While vast numbers of the current technology community members are proponents of open source, there are also people on the other side of the debate.

The Open Source software development model is considered a better software development model compared to proprietary one. The main reasons being that in open source model you get the following advantages,1)Users are treated as co-developers, 2)Early Releases, 3)Frequent Integration, 4)Several Versions, 5)High Modularization, 6)Dynamic decision making structure, 7)Diverse Developer skill base, 8)Pragmatic code review, 9)Not driven entirely by Monetary benefit, 10)No vendor lock-in, 11)Lower TCO, 12)Community support availability
