There are two types of oocytes: primary oocytes and secondary oocytes. A primary oocyte is just a kind of initial oocyte that is formed by mitosis of an oogonium into two primary oocytes. Each primary oocyte forms by meiosis two secondary oocytes, and each secondary oocyte divides into one ootid.

Each ootid, in turn, differentiates into an ovum

The formation of an oocyte is called oocytogenesis. Thus, oocytogenesis is a form of gametocytogenesis whose male counterpart is spermatocytogenesis.

Gametocyte: A gametocyte is a eukaryotic germ cell that divides by mitosis into other gametocytes or by meiosis into gametes. Male gametocytes are called spermatocytes, and female gametocytes are called oocytes. The creation of primary gametocytes from gametogonia or of secondary gametocytes from primary gamet...

Mitosis: In biology, mitosis is the process by which a cell separates its duplicated genome into two identical halves. It is generally followed immediately by cytokinesis which divides the cytoplasm and cell membrane. This results in two identical daughter cells with a roughly equal distribution of organel...
