Olympia Brown


 

Olympia Brown (1835-1926) was a famous Women's suffragist.

She initially joined Mount Holyoke College (then called Mount Holyoke Female Seminary) but only stayed for one year. She later transferred to, and graduated from, Antioch College. After being the first woman to graduate at the theological school of the St. Lawrence University in 1863, she was the first woman do be ordained as a Universalist minister.

In 1873 she married John Henry Willis.

Olympia Brown was member of the Woman's Party and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

In 1999 she was inducted into the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame.
