Oldies is a generic term commonly used in the United States to describe a radio format that concentrates on popular top-40 music from the 1950s, the 1960s, and the early 1970s. It generally describes the type of music, or format, that a radio station plays. Oldies are typically from the rock and roll or pop music genres. Oldies has some overlap with the classic rock format, which concentrates on the rock music of the 1970s and also plays newer material made in the same style. As the population ages, the Golden Oldies format is steadily being replaced by stations that play more classic rock and music from the 1970s.
