Part of the old market has been redeveloped and a significant part re-used as a popular food and general market which has been at the center of a revival in the area. In the late 20th century there was a dispute between the and the Spitafields residents about redevelopment of the western end of the Market. This was eventually resolved and now a large modern office building dominates the west end of the market. The east end of the Market has protected Horner buildings.
