Olaf Ludwig

Olaf Ludwig (born April 13 1960,Gera) is a former German racing cyclist. As an East German, he spent the majority of his career racing as an amateur until the reunification of Germany allowed him to become professional with the Dutch Panasonic cycling team, one of the leading teams at the time. As a specialist sprinter, perhaps the highlight of his career was winning the maillot vert (Green jersey) in the 1990 Tour de France. Other career highlights included winning the Olympic road race in Seoul in 1988, a record 38 stage victories in the Peace Race, winning the Amstel Gold Race in 1992 and podium placings in the Paris-Roubaix. He also won the 1992 UCI World Cup. His contemporary sprinting rivals included Mario Cipollini, Wilfred Nelissen and Djamolidine Abdoujaparov.

In 1993 he joined Team Telekom, later to become the T-Mobile Team. On retirement in 1996 he took up a post in public relations for the team, and has since become a team manager. He will apparently take over from Walter Godefroot as director sportif in 2006.
