Odd Girl Out

Odd Girl Out is a 2005 telefilm starring Alexa Vega (Vanessa), Lisa Vidal (Barbara), Alicia Morton (Tiffany), and others. The film was first aired on April 4, 2005 on Lifetime, and is about the struggles of Vanessa (Vega), who must deal with peer pressure and the brutality of high school girls.

Plot Summary

The story focuses on a high status clique of "cool girls" who draw their power from putting down others. Vanessa was a part of this group in the beginning of the movie. The group suddenly turns on Vanessa, "black balling" her at lunch and ostracizing her from their group while spreading vicious rumors about her. Adding to the humiliation, the leader of the clique offers several fake truces and pretends to apologize and make up, only to tear her down again. One of the cruelest tactics the clique uses is relentless "cyber bullying". They insult Vanessa through instant message and also dedicate a web site which celebrates her flaws.

In the end, Vanessa stands up to her tormenters. She confronts the leader of the clique and condemns her vile behavior publicly. She also makes a real friend rather than longing to return to the superficial circle of the clique. Like in many Lifetime Original movies, the female protagonist triumphs.
