Oceanside, California


 

Oceanside is a city in northern San Diego County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 161,029. Together with Vista and Carlsbad, it makes up the Tri-City area. The city is just south of Camp Pendleton, the largest U.S. Marine Corps base in the world. The city was first encountered by European explorers in 1769 and was incorporated in 1888.

Oceanside is at 33°12'42" North, 117°19'33" West (33.211566, -117.325701){{GR|1}}.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 107.7 km² (41.6 mi²). 105.1 km² (40.6 mi²) of it is land and 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.36% water.
