The original Oakland Oaks basketball team played in the American Basketball League in 1962. The team began its existence in the 1961-1962 inaugural season as the San Francisco Saints. When the Philadelphia Warriors of the established National Basketball Association announced plans to relocate to San Francisco for the 1962-1963 season, the Saints moved across the San Francisco Bay to Oakland for the 1962-1963 season and were renamed the Oaks. The team and the entire ABL disbanded December 31, 1962.
