NYSCC
The NYSCC (New York Sports and Convention Center) was a project proposed for construction on a platform over Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) rail yards on the far west side of the island of Manhattan in New York City. The arena would be an all-weather facility with a retractable roof, allowing it to be used as either a 200,000 square foot (19,000 m²) indoor convention hall, or a 75,000 seat indoor/outdoor sporting event stadium. The stadium plan was a cornerstone of the City of New York's bid to host the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012. Ultimately, its major full-time sporting team tenant would have been the New York Jets of the National Football League. Despite strong support from Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor (and NYC 2012 head) Dan Doctoroff and the business community, the project was ultimately torpedoed by neighborhood groups and urban planners, who would prefer to see the stadium site occupied by new parks and housing.
