Nyagan


 

Nyagan (??????) is a town in Western Siberia, Russia, in northern-western part of Khantia-Mansia autonomous district, near the Ob River, named after its tributary Nyagan-Yugan. Population 70,100 (as of 2004).

It was established in 1965 as a forestry centre, now it is principally a centre of the petroleum and natural gas industries, and was named Nyah (???). This placename appeared in maps in the same year, but it's modern name city accepted on August 15 1985.

The city territory is a waterlogged area, region is notable for sudden temperature drops. The railway from Yekaterinburg to the Ob region crosses Nyagan since April 2, 1967. City airport, which works since 1993, accepts planes "An-24", "Yak-40" and "Tu-134". On September 1 2000 a regional museum has been opened. Nyagan has the best hospital center in Tyumen region.
