NUMB3RS
![]() NUMB3RS (NUMBERS) is an American television show that first aired January 23, 2005 on CBS. The story revolves around FBI special agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and his mathematical genius brother, Charlie Eppes (David Krumholtz), who develops formulae to predict the actions of various criminals. Judd Hirsch plays the brothers' amiable father Alan. Peter MacNicol also stars as Charlie's fellow CalSci professor, Dr. Larry Fleinhardt. The show creators are Cheryl Heuton and Nick Falacci, and the letter E is replaced in the title by the number 3. In fact, as the opening credits roll, at least one digit between 1 and 9 appears in place of a letter in each actor's name. This is also found in the Internet language known as Leetspeek. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The show is a balance of the relationship between Don and Charlie and of the efforts they make to fight crime, normally in Los Angeles. On some fronts, it is similar in execution to CSI. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Several mathematicians from Caltech work as consultants for each episode. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Though the show does not actually present any mathematics, methods for solving similar types of problems actually exist, e.g. Bayesian search theory. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
