Norwegian Wood (ノルウェーの森 Noruwei no mori) is a 1987 novel by Japanese author Haruki Murakami.

The novel is a nostalgic story of loss and sexual coming-of-age. The novel?s protagonist and narrator, average university student Toru Wanatabe, encounters several sexually liberated young people, most prominently the emotionally unstable Naoko and the blunt and outgoing Midori.

The novel is set in the late 1960s, in which Japanese youth, like those of many other nations, began openly revolting against the establishment. Murakami depicts these social activists as mostly hypocritical and weak-willed.
