North Shore (Chicago)
Historically, North Shore referred to the area serviced by the Chicago & Milwaukee Railroad along Lake Michigan?s western shore between Chicago and Milwaukee. Today it refers to the suburbs north of Chicago along the lakefront. Then, as now, the area includes many of the most affluent communities in greater metropolitan Chicago, and the country. This area received much exposure in the 1980s because it was the setting to numerous teen movies, largely as a result of writer/director John Hughes. Some of the most powerful people in the country live on Chicago's North Shore, one of the most affluent suburban areas in the United States.
