Nor Crystal Tears

Nor Crystal Tears is a first contact novel about the meeting of the insect-like Thranx and humans written by Alan Dean Foster that started the Humanx Commonwealth. The story starts out in the Nursery on Willow-Wane, a colony world following a central government on the capital world of Hivehom. A larvea named Ryozenzuzex is in the nursery at the time the story begins-learning information from the Nurses and preparing for metamorphosis, the verge when larvea mature into elegant, four legged adult Thranx. A larvea cannot see in color, cannot walk, and can barely speak. A larvea also cannot faz, which is a special power the Thranx have that allows the to feel the disturbance in air preasure around them. When Ryo and the other larvea come into the high, domed chamber to spin their cacoons of silk and begin their lives as adults, all the lessons they had ever been taught about metamorphosis can prepare them for the reality. After three seasons in their cacoons, the larvea emerge as full grown Thranx-ready to begin their careers outside the nursery.
