Noble is Cleveland County's third largest town. It is the rose rock capitol of the world. Barium sulfate found in the soil forms reddish-brown sandy crystals which are formed in petal-like clusters resembling roses. The highest concentration of barium sulfate is found in Noble and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. In 1969, the rose rock was officially adopted as Oklahoma's State Rock. In honor of that status, Noble sets aside the first Saturday in May to celebrate its annual Rose Rock Festival. Geologist Joe Stine and his wife opened the Rose Rock Museum in 1986 and since opening, they have presented rose rocks to such people as former First Lady Nancy Reagan and Queen Elizabeth II.
