No Exit (Blondie album)

Blondie's seventh studio album, No Exit, was released in February 1999, 17 years after their previous studio album, The Hunter, in 1982. This album was hailed as the big comeback for Blondie, who had not performed or recorded together since 1982. The album reached number 3 in the UK charts, although Blondie dabbled in all types of genres, including Pop, Reggae, and Hip-Hop. Mike Chapman, who had produced all but the first two of Blondie's albums, did not produce No Exit, although he did produce some of the early demos. Instead it was produced by Craig Leon, who also helped to write some of the songs. The album spawned two UK singles - "Maria", which gave Blondie their first ever hit that went straight in at number 1 in the UK, and "Nothing Is Real But The Girl", which only managed to reach number 26. The single version of this song had different lyrics, and some fans say the song would have done much better with the original album lyrics. A third single was released in the US, the title track "No Exit". It was a fusion of Classical, Hip-Hop and Rock, and featured raps by Coolio. It tried to recreate the success of 1981 single "Rapture", but on a more hardcore level. A re-recording of the song "Out In The Streets" was also included on this album. It was originally recorded by the band in 1975 while they were trying to get a record deal, and was later included on the 2001 remaster of the album Blondie.
