Nicole Wray


 

Nicole Wray is an African-American R&B singer and rapper. She is sometimes credited by her full name, and sometimes simply by Nicole. She is a low contralto, capable of singing low Cs.

She first rose to fame as an artist on Missy Elliott's Goldmind Records, and made her first professional recordings for track on Missy's Supa Dupa Fly album. Her's debut single was 1998's "Make It Hot", a top-ten hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and on the R&B counterpart produced by Timbaland. Wray continued to appear on the albums Elliott and her associates for the rest of the decade. By 2001, she had split from the label and returned to her native Virginia.

In 2003, Wray got a second chance at stardom, signing with Damon Dash's Roc-a-Fella Records. Her first single on the label was 2004's "If I Was Your Girlfriend", accompanied by a Jem & the Holograms inspired video. Her second album entitled simply "Nicole Wray" will be out in early 2006. Until then fans can catch her latest track on the critically acclaimed soundtrack to the film Hustle & Flow.
