Before Nickelodeans inception, the pinwheel network, the forerunner to Nick, had only shown cartoons once before, but only one-time animated shorts on a twenty-four hours every day sort of Oh Yeah! Cartoons thing on TV show called Pinwheel.

The show Pinwheel stopped after a few years and Nick got to making only live-action shows. Then, on Sunday, August 11, 1991 at exactly 7:00 in the morning, the very first Nicktoon was aired - Doug. And then, when Doug was over, there was Rugrats. The Ren and Stimpy Show was after that. And, every Sunday, that repeated.

Over the years, more Nicktoons were created and aired. Most Nicktoons have an element of childish themes and some type of grose level in many of the eailer shows. Also other Nicktoons were created for Nicks late morning and early afternoon lineup called Nick Jr.
