Nick Bockwinkel


 

Nick Bockwinkel was a Professional Wrestler, mainly competing in the AWA in the United States. He held their version of the World Heavyweight Title 6 times, firstly in 1975, defeating Verne Gagne, and lastly in 1986, whereas in 1987 he lost the belt to Curt Hennig. He was most famously managed by Bobby Heenan, and had many battles with Hulk Hogan over the title. He was also the Commissioner for World Championship Wrestling in the early to mid-1990's. He is the son of wrestler Warren Bockwinkel and was trained by him and Lou Thesz. He is currently the onscreen General Manager for AWA Superstars.

In 1968, Bockwinkel appeared as a contestant on a prime-time version of the NBC game show Hollywood Squares.

In 2000, he and Yoshiaki Fujiwara were the commissioners for a short-lived shoot style promotion, the Japan Pro Wrestling Association, but as the shoot-style market in Japan had been low since the collapse of UWF International, the wrestlers on it moved to other promotions.
