Nguyen Thi Binh

Nguyễn Thị Bình (阮氏平), nee Nguyễn Châu Sa, is a Vietnamese politician who has played an important role in political scene and history of Vietnam during and after the Vietnam War.

She was born in 1927 in Sa Đéc province and is a grand-daughter of the patriot Phan Chu Trinh; she studied French at Lycée Sisowath and worked as a teacher during the French colonisation of Vietnam. She become member of Vietnam's Communist Party in 1948. From 1945 to 1951, she took part in various intellectual movements against the French colonists. Subsequently, she was arrested and jailed between 1951 and 1953 in Chí Hoà gaol (Saigon) by the French colonial authority in Vietnam.

During the Vietnam War, she became a member of the Central Committee for the National Front for the Liberation of Vietnam (Mặt trận Dân tộc Giải phóng Miền Nam) and the Vice-Chairperson of the South Vietnam Women's Liberation Association. In 1968 she was appointed foreign minister of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam and played a major role in the signing of Paris Peace Accords on Vietnam, an agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam, which was signed in Paris and which entered into force 17 January, 1973.

After the Vietnam War, she was appointed Minister of Education of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. She was elected Vice-President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 1992.
