NFL Network was launched November 4, 2003, only eight months after the owners voted 32–0 to approve its formation. The league invested $100 million to fund the network's operations.

NFL Films, which was created by the NFL more than 40 years ago, is a key supplier of NFL Network's programming. With more than 100 million feet of film equaling more than 4,000 hours in their library, NFL Films is the backbone of NFL Network.
