Newtownards

Newtownards (Baile Nua na hArda in Irish) is a town in County Down in Northern Ireland, on the shores of Strangford Lough on the Ards Peninsula. Newtownards is the main town of the Ards Borough Council.

Newtownards was the birthplace of the geologist, Carl Stevenson. It is also well-known for being the home town of the famous SAS veteran from the Second World War, Robert Blair 'Paddy' Mayne.
