News Media Guild

The News Media Guild (http://www.newsmediaguild.org), formerly known as the Wire Service Guild, is a local union of The Newspaper Guild-Communucations Workers of America.

It currently represents reporters, editors, photographers, and broadcast staff at The Associated Press, United Press International and the EFE news agency in the United States.

The national local was founded in 1958, but its roots extend back to the 1940s. The subject of organizing media workers at AP was the subject of case before the U.S. Supreme Court (Associated Press v N.L.R.B, 301 U.S. 103), which held that the First Amendment did not give media employers immunity from labor laws.
