Newcastle United Jets
Newcastle United Jets is a football (soccer) club based in Newcastle, Australia. The team first entered the National Soccer League in 2000 after the withdrawal of the Newcastle Breakers Soccer Club from that competition. The team plays its home games at Energy Australia Stadium (formerly Marathon Stadium). It was originally known as Newcastle United, but added the mascot "Jets" referring to the fact that Newcastle is home to an Air Force base.

Former England and Australia manager Terry Venables was widely reported as favourite to become the teams' technical director. However, Venables's agent has announced that he has not signed any deal to take up a job with the club, and will not take up a job with the club, due to his many commitments in the UK.
