Campaign Slogan

  • "Change the govt"
  • "Tackling the issues of Mainstream New Zealanders" - this slogan here got Brash into alot of trouble in the last televised leaders debate on 15, September 2005. Brash was asked "Who is NOT a mainstream New Zealander?". Brash stuttered... then came up with the answer: "Anyone who doesn't ahh... want a tax cut..." the presenter asked "Is that it?" Brash then looks at Helen Clark and said "Helen Clark is not Mainstream and neather is any one who votes for the Labour Party". Helen Clark said "Why am I not mainstream, I grew up on a farm, I was educated here, I have worked my whole life for New Zealand what is not mainstream about me?" and Dr. Brash could not answer and just stood there. On Winning the 2005 general election Helen Clark began her Victory Speech with "Perhaps I should start by saying 'Thank You Mainstream New Zealand'.
