New York Yacht Club

The New York Yacht Club is a private yacht club based in New York City. The New York Yacht Club is one of the world's most distinguished and influential yachting institutions.

Facts

The NYYC hosts many regattas during the season including the following: the New York Yacht Club Cruise, a series of races held annually in July; the Annual Regatta, which started in 1846; the Queen's Cup Trophy regatta; the 12-metre Worlds; the Una Cup; the Corsair Cup; the Astor Cups; and the Solution Trophy.

Founded in 1844 and incorporated in 1865.

The primary officers of the Club consist of the following: Commodore, Vice-Commodore, Rear-Commodore, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Its primary clubhouse is a magnificent, six-story, eclectic edifice with a nautical-themed limestone facade located at 37 West 44th Street in midtown Manhattan. The clubhouse opened in 1901 and was designed by Warren and Wetmore, who also designed the exterior of the famous Grand Central Terminal. The centerpiece of the clubhouse is the Model Room which contains the world's largest collection of full and half hull models.

In addition to its landlocked Manhattan clubhouse, the club maintains "Harbour Court" a clubhouse situated close to the water in Newport, Rhode Island; it opened in 1988. The waters off Newport has been a key sailing venue for the NYYC since the very beginning of the Club's history: on the day the club was founded on July 30, 1844, its members resolved that the Club sail a cruise from New York City to Newport; two days later, yachts of the founding members sailed from the Battery to Newport, with several stops on the way and trials of speed.
