New York City Department of Education
The New York City Department of Education is a department of the city of New York which runs almost all of the city's public schools. The current (as of 2005) chancellor of the DoE is Joel I. Klein.

Each house or residential area in New York City is zoned to an elementary school and a middle school. High schools are not zoned in New York City; pupils instead must complete applications to the high schools of their choice.
