New Tricks

New Tricks is a drama series made by Wall to Wall for BBC television. It stars Amanda Redman, Alun Armstrong, James Bolam, and Dennis Waterman as four police officers in the fictional UCOS (Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad). Two series of the drama have so far been made, and a further two have been commissioned.

• Superintendent Sandra Pullman (Redman): she is head of the unit, and highly devoted to her work. As a result her private life suffers.
• Gerry Standing (Waterman): Gerry about as un-PC as you could get. He mixes easily with criminals, so his colleagues suggest that he could be corrupt. The second series includes a greater focus on Gerry's passion for gambling.
• Jack Halford (Bolam): was once a distinguished detective who left the force after the death of his wife. Jack is keen to see justice done.
• Brian Lane (Armstrong): has obsessive and paranoic traits, sometimes leading the other characters to worry about his mental state. However, he has excellent analytical skills.
