New Tattoo
New Tattoo, released in 2000, was Motley Crue's attempt at going back to their sleazy 80s rock sound. Because Tommy Lee had left the band a year before, former Ozzy Osbourne drummer Randy Castillo took his place on the drums.

Much of the album was criticized by critics and fans, particularly what they felt was weak lyrical content on Nikki's part. Another criticism was over Randy's drumming, which wasn't as fast-paced and unpredictable as Tommy's. Also, many noticed that with this album, the Crue took a major step backwards, a major contradiction to the band's moving forward attitude. New Tattoo debuted at #41 and slid down shortly after.

Right before the tour in support of the album, Randy fell ill. He was consequently replaced by Hole drummer Samantha Maloney. Reception towards her drumming was better than Randy's as her style closely resembled Tommy's. Randy Castillo has since passed away.
