New Synagogue

The Neue Synagoge (German: New Synagogue) is a large synagogue in Berlin. It was inaugurated in the presence of Bismarck in 1866. It was designed by the gentile architect Eduard Knoblauch (1801-1865). The building was damaged in Kristallnacht (9-10 November 1938) when the Nazis began their assault on the Jewish community. The building was subsequently gutted by allied bombing during World War 2. It has since then been restored.
