New River Valley

The New River Valley is the name of the region on the east coast of the United states within the vicinity of West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina next to the New River. It was one of the first frontier areas in the United States, and was key to encouraging western expansion. The first European to explore the valley was Abraham Wood of Fort Henry in 1671. The Valley has been the locus of significant parts of American History, and now is home to several million people.
