Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go is a 2005 novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. This work is narrated by Kathy H., a woman who in the book recalls her childhood and how certain interconnected circumstances of her upbringing become fundamental to her adult life. The novel tells us about the abnormal childhood of Kathy H., pivoting around a strange boarding school, and eventually the narration explores her adult life. The entire narrative takes place in a dystopic late twentieth century Britain, a place where humans are cloned outside the public eye to provide necessary organs for unhealthy individuals. As with Ishiguro?s other works, he is primarily focused on unique ways to develop complex characters with transparent emotions.

The central issue of free will is not even pondered at by any of the novel?s characters; its subtleties lay in the underlying dramatic ironies created because we as non-donors know what the "real" world really is and must remain. The book therefore speaks to the reader?s intelligence. Is this what our world would be like if there really were ?innocents??
