Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris is an actor, born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 15, 1973. He is probably best known for his role as Doogie Howser, M.D..

Harris' singing voice landed him a role as Tobias Ragg in several concert performances of Sweeney Todd. He also was in the 2000 film The Next Best Thing, where he played David, the Rupert Everett character's boyfriend. He has made a guest appearance in the episode "Girls, Interrupted" on the sitcom Will & Grace in which his character was a former homosexual trying to convert others to heterosexuality, but ended up being converted back to homosexuality by Jack (played by Sean Hayes). He also appeared in an episode of ' in 2004, cast against type as a Jeffrey Dahmer-like serial killer.

In 2002 he performed on Broadway beside Anne Heche in Proof. In 2003, he performed in Cabaret, alongside Deborah Gibson and Tom Bosley, where he played the role of the Emcee. In 2004 he performed a dual role of the Balladeer and Lee Harvey Oswald on Broadway in the controversial musical revival of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins.

He also played a parody of himself in the movie Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle in 2004.

Harris currently plays Barney on How I Met Your Mother.

While he has never publicly responded to questions pertaining to his sexual orientation, he is widely believed to be gay. Past reports from tabloid media have placed him in relationships with actors Max von Essen and David Burtka, although neither Harris nor von Essen or Burtka have confirmed this. Also, rumors abound in the theater community that Harris' professional relationship with Sondheim - who is several decades his senior - led to a sexual one.
