National Semiconductor (abbreviation NS or NSC) is one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers, now based in Santa Clara, California. In its heyday, the Jargon file reports, it was popular (and unpopular) enough to acquire the derogatory nickname "Nominal Semidestructor".
