The film's plot is another family misadventure full of over-the-top, slapstick and bathroom humor. Chase and D'Angelo continue portraying the married couple Clark and Ellen Griswold with two children, Rusty and Audrey, living in Chicago. The family competes in a game show and wins an all expense paid trip to Europe. In a whirlwind tour of western Europe, chaos of all sorts ensues.

A classic line occurs atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris, where Chase, inspired by the view, declares, "I want to WRITE, I want to PAINT, I want to SCULPT something massive---is there a bathroom around here?"
