The National Cathedral School (NCS) is well known for its rigourous academic curriculum and for having some of the most intelligent young women in the country. The school has coordinate classes with St. Albans (STA), and offers a variety of electives in all subject areas. If a girl is interested in pursuing a topic not offered in the classroom, she submits a proposal for an independent study and asks one teacher to sponsor her. All girls are involved and passionate about their extra-curricular activities which range from the literary and art magazine, HIE (ranked number one by the American Scholastic Press Association), to its award-winning theater program and student-run disciplinary system, the Honor Board.

NCS is not only known for its academics but also for its athletics. The recently constructed Agnes C. Underwood Athletic Center is an impressive fitness resource. From field sports to yoga, dance, and rock climbing, a variety of choices are offered to fit the needs of every athlete. Students may also opt to have their own independent sports project outside of school, and earn credit for doing so.

Cathedral School girls are also deeply involved in the arts. The best equipment is provided for a well-rounded visual arts experience. Ceramics, a variety of photography, and drawing are just a few of the courses offered. There are also great opportunities in performing arts. Singers are given a variety of choral groups to choose from. Most of these groups often perform during Friday Cathedral services and in concerts. The elite Cathedral Girl Choristers perform most Sundays and have been requested to sing for important government functions, including both inagurations of President George W. Bush. Drama, directing, and set design classes are offered as well. NCS girls and STA boys join together to produce three major productions every year, and invite the National Capitol Area Cappies http://cappies.com/nca/ to review and critique one of their shows.
