Narcisco Lopez
Narcisco Lopez was a Cuban born soldier of fortune. He fled Cuba for New York City in 1848 after a failed attempt to create a revolt among Cuban planters. He tried three times to raise filibuster expeditions to invade Cuba. His 1849 effort was blocked and the ships assembled for it were seized even before it had left the United States. A second effort in 1850 reached Cuba, but his forces were unable to raise a successful revolt and were forced to flee the island. His final 1851 effort led to the capture of his force and his execution.
