Najd
![]() Najd or Nejd ( Naǧd) is a region in central Saudi Arabia and the location of the nation's capital, Riyadh. Nejd is a plateau ranging from 762 to 1,525m in height. The eastern section is marked by oasis settlements, elsewhere the region is sparsely occupied by nomadic Bedouins. An individual from Najd is called a Najdi in Arabic. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The region was conquered by the Wahhabi forces of Abdul Aziz ibn Abdul Rahman ibn Saud, from the Ottoman Empire, during the period of 1899–1912. In 1932, Nejd became a province of ibn Saud's newly formed Saudi Arabia. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Banu Tamim clan was located in this area. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ A well-known Hadith of Muhammad seems to portray the Nejd in a negative light, the Hadith is as follows: ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ibn Umar reported the Prophet as saying: "Oh Allah, bless us in our Syria; O Allah, bless us in our Yemen." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Those present said: "And in our Najd, O Messenger of Allah!" ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ But he (Muhammad) said, "O Allah, bless us in our Syria; O Allah, bless us in our Yemen." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Those present said, "And in our Najd, O Messenger of Allah!" ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ibn Umar said that he thought that he said on the third occasion: "Earthquakes and fitnah are there, and there shall arise the horn of Satan." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Among the prominent people born in Najd is Muhammad ibn Abd al Wahhab, the founder of the Wahhabi movement. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
