Næstved

N?stved is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Storstr?m County on the island of Zealand (Sj?lland) in the south of Denmark. The municipality includes the island of Gavn?. It covers an area of 200 km?, and has a total population of 48,312 (2005). Its mayor is Henning Jensen, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of N?stved. Another town in the municipality is Hyllinge.

By January 1, 2007 N?stved municipality will, due to Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007), be merged with existing Flads?, Fuglebjerg, Holmegaard, and Sus? municipalities to form the new N?stved municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 681 km? and a total population of 78,446 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Sj?lland ("Zealand Region").
