he graduated in electrical engineering from National Institute of Engineering,Mysore in 1967 and got his master's degree from IIT Kanpur in 1969. He secured rank at both places.

He began his career with Patni Computer Systems at Pune. He met his to-be wife Sudha, who was working as a Research Associate with Tatas at Pune. Sudha Murthy, who by herself, has a brilliant Academic and career record, is from North Karnataka. In 1981, he founded Infosys with six software professionals. He served as President of National Association of Software and Service Companies, India from 1992 to 1994.
