Mysterious Skin
Mysterious Skin is the California filmmaker Gregg Araki's eighth film. Released in 2004, it is based on a book by Scott Heim and concerns the effect of childhood sexual abuse on two small-town teenagers with weak father figures? one becomes convinced he was abducted by aliens (played by Brady Corbet of Thunderbirds), the other (Joseph Gordon-Levitt of 3rd Rock from the Sun) feels that he was specially chosen by the abuser, a Little League coach, and grows up to become a gay hustler.

The movie has been the subject of controversy in Australia, where the Australian Family Association requested a review of its classification, seeking to have the film outlawed due to its depictions of paedophilia. Some have gone as far as saying that the movie could be used as an "instruction manual" for would be paedophiles. The six-member Classification Review Board voted four to two in favour of maintaining a R rating.
